Youth Inter-Arts Program

Groundworks Integrated Arts Collective believes that it is critical to find ways for individuals and communities to experience the arts as relevant to how they live, work, and play. Although there is value in offering a single artistic performance or production for the community, often times this is not enough because these experiences may not be accessible to many, including youth and low income individuals.

In 2006, through a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Calgary, GroundWorks Integrated Arts Collective developed and delivered a pilot, education- focused program based on arts-based programming for youth. According to the program’s evaluation, the pilot project was a resounding success receiving positive feedback from parents, students and teachers.

Working with professional artists, and partnering with the Boys and Girl Clubs of Calgary, the Youth Inter-Arts Program is a 12-week curriculum-based program that engages at-risk youth during critical developmental periods (aged 9-12 or 13-17) in dance, music, and visual arts. Through three months of skill development and training, students are engaged in a process to guide them in generating their own body of multi-disciplinary work, culminating in a performance to friends and family.
